Lumonite, a narrative product film about the Compass headlamp

A narrative approach to using a headlamp in the fell landscapes of Ylläs brought the brand's sense of adventure, the product in use and the skiing together into one film.

WINTER DARKNESS TESTED THE PRODUCTS

We took Lumonite along on the Nordic Arctic production trip and shot it in dark terrain, outdoors and as a working tool through the shoot days.

The result was one cinematic product film and around twenty finished photographs. The content works both for building the Lumonite brand and for marketing the products.

ABOUT THE PRODUCT

The Lumonite Compass is a versatile Finnish general-purpose headlamp that users rate highly. The Leader, which runs on an external battery, is used by professional orienteers among others because of its very high output. We shot both products.

Lumonite is a lighting brand from Oulu, in northern Finland. Its headlamps are designed for the dark and the cold of northern winters.

How the shoot came together.

The shooting happened alongside the Nordic Arctic trip, partly at Ylläs and partly at other stops on the way.

Challenge

The light had to show as part of the work.

Lumonite came along on the Nordic Arctic 2026 winter trip as a product partner. We had Lumonite Compass and Lumonite Leader lights with us, and they were used in the dark, in the cold, on transfers and through the shoot days.

The challenge was to produce material where the lights are part of arctic work rather than just product shots.

Idea

We built the film around a situation that brought together the darkness of winter, pushing your own limits and what the product can do. The subject we settled on was freeriding on the fell.

  • We wanted a modern style that stands out in today's demanding marketing environment.
  • We planned studio-style shots made outdoors and precise effect shots to support the story.
  • An English voice-over finished the structure of the film so that it works internationally as well.
Execution

The shoot began on Yllästunturi.

We shot for two days at Ylläs. The first day went to studio-style shots out in the deep snow and the second we spent on the slopes of the fell, shooting skiing by day, at sunset and at night.

  • Aerials with a cinema drone on the ski slope
  • Adapting the plan to constantly changing weather
  • Operating the gear in hard frost and wind
  • Photography in four locations, Tornio, Levi, Ylläs and Kilpisjärvi

The collaboration was highly professional from start to finish. As a result, we got high-quality photo and video material that matched our wishes well and showcased our products impressively. We shot video at Ylläs for two days and photographed across Lapland. The Lumonite lights also ended up in our own hands through the shoot days.
