Food as part of the adventure

Real Turmat, a story-led product video

A story-led product video following the meals in the middle of an arctic production trip. The film is built around preparing the food, eating it and the rhythm of the trip. With voice-over and full sound design.

PROJECT

FOOD IN ITS CONDITIONS.

Real Turmat came along on the Nordic Arctic 2026 production trip. The aim was a story-led product film.

The meals travelled with the daily routine of a three-person production crew in Lapland and Northern Norway, on transfers, on breaks and in the middle of shoot days.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Real Turmat meals are made by the Norwegian company Drytech AS, a freeze-dried food producer founded in Tromsø in 1989. The company makes expedition meals under the REAL Turmat name and field rations under the REAL Field Meal name, among others for the Norwegian armed forces. The meals are built for the outdoors and for trekking, for conditions where food has to be prepared without a kitchen.

Production

A story built from the trip

The meals were along on a two-week arctic production trip. The story was put together from the moments where the food was cooked and eaten, in the dark and in the cold.

Challenge

Expedition food is not shot in a studio.

01

The meals happened on the trip's terms, in the dark, in the cold and at the end of long days. The shooting had to fit around them rather than the other way round.

The material built up over two weeks on transfers, on breaks and in the middle of shoot days in Lapland and Northern Norway. The story had to be assembled afterwards from what had been shot.

  • Freeze-dried expedition meals in the cold and the dark
  • Material from Lapland and Northern Norway
  • The product as part of a two-week production trip
Idea

The story had to come from the trip.

02

The idea was to build content out of what happened on the trip. The food travelled with us, cooked quickly and helped us carry on to the next shoot day.

Darkness, hard frost, long days, the camper van and the landscapes were the setting where the food was eaten.

  • Food built into the rhythm of the trip
  • A story-led brand film from the trip's own footage
  • The conditions of Lapland and Northern Norway in shot
  • Content where the meal belongs to the moment
Execution

The film was put together from two weeks of footage.

03

We shot the meals at different points of the trip, on transfers and on breaks, in the dark and in the cold.

The result was a story-led brand film where Real Turmat appears as part of an arctic production trip. In the edit the footage was cut into a film with voice-over and sound design. It took several rounds before the whole sat right.
