Interior photography in a working hotel: rooms in use, limited time windows, light that changes through the day. A hotel room is small and the light is what it is, you can't move the window. Each image had to work with what was on offer: that room, that light, that time of day.

A boutique hotel's value is in its atmosphere: the texture of the materials, the quality of light, the feel of a particular space at a particular time of day. Generic hotel images lose that. We shot Stadshotell the way you'd shoot a location for a film, looking for what's distinctive about this place, not what's standard for the category.

We went through the hotel systematically: rooms, corridors, common areas. But we framed for mood, not for documentation. We let the existing light do most of the work — natural light in hotel rooms is usually better than any lighting setup, if you time the shots to the right time of day.
