A company film built from four active worksites. The dry-ice manufacturing process in Lahti ties the whole thing together.

A COMPANY FILM FROM FOUR SITES

Suomen Kuivajää Oy is a Finnish dry-ice blasting company. The brief was a company film and photography from active worksites. The goal was to show the many uses of dry ice.

Four locations around Finland: a Jalostaja food factory in Turku, the Kaukora factory in Raisio, the Fermion pharmaceutical plant in Hanko, and Suomen Kuivajää’s own manufacturing plant in Lahti. Documentary and directed scenes at all four.

Dry ice, or solid carbon dioxide, works as an effective cleaning method when blasted, and suits the food industry among others.

Production

One week covered four factories.

We shot four sites on four days in the same week. Blasting was under way at three of them and at the fourth we filmed how dry ice is made.

Turku

Cleaning a food production line

At the Jalostaja factory the goal was to document the benefits of dry-ice blasting in a food-production environment. The dark interiors made filming difficult, so we used our own LED lights in many of the scenes.

Raisio

The same frame before and after.

At the Kaukora factory we documented the cleaning of aluminium moulds step by step. Before-and-after images work perfectly for showing the result. The moulds threw off a lot of dust, so we covered our camera gear in plastic.

Hanko

Basket work at fifteen metres.

At the Fermion pharmaceutical plant, workers cleaned the exterior wall from a lift basket at 15 metres above the ground. We filmed the cleaning both from the drone and from the factory roof.

At Suomen Kuivajää's own manufacturing plant we documented the dry-ice production process itself. Showing how dry ice is made tied the film together and made the company's work easy to understand.

The collaboration with Fraymful on video production and photography went excellently from start to finish. The team worked professionally, swiftly and with a great attitude. They understood our needs and wishes for the video right away – and managed to capture exactly the right mood from our worksites on the shoot days.
